We are all beacons of radiating energy.  Our subconscious is projected out into the world, for better or worse.  If we take the time and energy to heal ourselves, healing will expand all around us.  Without any seeming effort on our part, people around us will benefit.  The quality of not only our lives will improve but so will the lives of everyone we come in contact with.  It turns into a positive cycle of regeneration.  We start healing others by doing nothing but healing ourselves.  It’s an unknowing act of flirting with the miraculous.

So keep up the great work, you’re making the world a better place.

Five Practical Tips for Newly Diagnosed Cancer Patients

 Spirituality, Meditation and Energy Healing

Cancer?!?  Oh God no.  Am I going to die?

From 2003-11, I had the unique opportunity to work as an Energy Healer at the PeaceHealth Cancer Center in Bellingham, WA.  I learned an enormous amount about cancer from some truly incredible patients.   Here’s some of what I discovered.

When someone is diagnosed with cancer or any serious physical illness, everything changes…immediately. Decisions on treatment must be made, family members need to be notified, finances become a concern, and questions of death come to the forefront. Priorities come sharply into focus.  Emotions surface, sometimes powerfully.  My job was to assist patients through the subconscious emotional mine fields that come up during cancer treatment.

Here are 5 tips I’ve seen come in handy to help a number of newly diagnosed cancer patients.

1.  Find Someone To Talk To, Get Support.  The emotions that come up during the journey to overcome cancer can be very strong.  Having someone to talk to can help alleviate emotional distress and assist in processing the array of emotions that will be coming your way.  It’s imperative to surround yourself with positive people.  This is not a time to go it alone and I strongly recommend finding people who have gone through the experience already and recovered.  Also, try to find a variety to good listeners.  These can include family, friends, therapists, healers, counselors and support groups.

2.  Get Involved In Your Recovery.  Knowledge is power.  Empower yourself by finding out as much as you can.  Don’t blindly follow health care professional advice.  Get information, make informed choices.  After all, it’s your life and body.  Everyone’s road to recovery is different and yours will be unique for you.  Research all forms of healing including non-traditional types of therapy.  Some of the most glaring successes in cancer recovery are people who have been deeply involved in their own recovery process.  Go with what makes you feel most comfortable.

3.  Stay Positive.  I’ve noted parallels of many who have survived cancer. These inspiring individuals have a very positive attitude. Some see cancer as the best thing that ever happened to them because it brings wonderful new people into their life. Others view it as a wake-up call, teaching them what is really important. Many learn about healing, and some connect to a higher power.  Keeping a positive mental reference will attract numerous wonderful healing experiences.

4.  Use the Subconscious Mind to Heal.  Learn to Relax, Meditate, Visualize and Connect to a Higher Power.  The subconscious mind can be an enormous help in healing cancer.  For some, a contributing factor to the cause of cancer can be from subconsciously suppressed emotion.  When emotion gets trapped in the subconscious it will sometimes look for an outlet through the body in the form of an illness, such as cancer.  By learning to deeply relax and enter the subconscious, damaging pent-up emotions can be released, reducing some or all of the internal emotion underlying cancer.

The subconscious mind can also be used to heal cancer by 1) visualizing the release of cancer cells, 2) feeling positive energy running through the body and 3) connecting to a higher power (i.e. God, the Divine, Chi, the Universe, etc.).  Those who can help may be leaders in Meditation, Healers and Hypnotherapists.

5.  Focus on Living.  Cancer patients are some of the most remarkable people I’ve ever met.  Survivors of a life-threatening illness will be forever changed. Whether they seek therapy or not those who recover go through an enormous internal transformation.

Many who recover focus on living, as if each day were their last.  This can include anything but for most it involves being with beloved family and friends.  I’ve seen many relationships heal during cancer recovery and it has been a beautiful sight to see.  Those who focus on living while dealing with cancer have taught me the true purpose of life.  And what might that be?  The purpose of life is living.

Are Guardian Angels Real?

Spirituality, Meditation and Energy Healing

Guardian Angels?  Aw…C’mon…Seriously?

I know people who swear by them as protectors of Divine will.  I’ve heard numerous accounts and seen their helping hands in a number of difficult situations.  I’ve even heard stories of angels slipping through the cracks of ether and visiting us in the physical world.  However, those stories sounded like tall tales; wishful thinking.  I was pretty skeptical until I went mountain climbing about 20 years ago.

In the early 1990’s, I was living in a small mountain town.  A friend of mine and I decided to take a trip to the Olympic National Park in Washington State and climb Mt. Olympus.  There was a friend of ours in town who had just separated from his wife and kids.  He was pretty down in the dumps so we invited him along.  We figured the trip could do him some good.  His name was Trevor.

The first day of the trip consisted of an 18-mile hike from the trail head to a shelter below tree line.  It was an arduous hike for anybody especially with climbing gear.  Since we were all young and in pretty good shape, we figured we could handle it.  We eventually dragged ourselves to base camp late in the day and went to bed early.  We had to get up at sunrise to hit the mountain.

After slogging all day and negotiating a little fog, we finally made it to the top.  The last hundred feet was a steep scramble that didn’t require ropes.  As we started up, Trevor decided to wait where he was.  He didn’t have the strength to climb the last hundred feet.  He had been a trooper all day and never complained but we could tell his heart weighed about ten thousand pounds.  His physical body was fine; his strength was zapped by the burden he carried around his heart.

We made it back to the shelter by late afternoon and spent the rest of the day lying around, eating, and reading stories to each other.  As the afternoon progressed, we heard something off in the distance and saw four people making their way up their trail.  It was an East German family made up of a beautiful husband and wife with two skinny little girls, ages 10 and 12.

They had emigrated from East Germany to Vancouver, B.C., just before the Wall came down in 1988.  As we chit-chatted away, I noticed some peculiarities.  First off, they didn’t look particularly outdoorsy.  In fact, they were very clean with no dirt anywhere.  According to them, they made the entire 18-mile hike that day but looked as if they hadn’t broken a sweat all day.  I’m sorry, but there’s no way they could make that hike in one day with two skinny little kids.  It was tough enough for us, but with two kids?  Forget it!

Trevor began to talk to them in German.  He wasn’t fluent but they humored him.  They hadn’t spoken much German in a while and it reminded them of home.  As the conversation continued, I noticed the weight hanging over Trevor’s heart started to lift.  He cracked a smile, his eyes brightened up, his face lifted.  It was wonderful to watch..

As they parted, we wondered where they were going to camp.  It was only about one or two hundred yards to the end of the trai–then nothing but boulders and snow.  Everywhere else along the trail was heavily covered in brush, steep, and strewn with rocks.  They weren’t going to get a tent in anywhere, let alone for four people.  As we slowly came to that conclusion, we agreed we should invite them down to share our campsite.  Trevor took off to find them.

Fifteen minutes later, he came back looking perplexed.  They were nowhere to be found.  So we all went up, just to make sure nothing unfortunate had happened.  We looked everywhere.  There were no footprints, no campfire.  But there no place they could go.  You can’t hide a family in a tiny patch of woods, especially with two little kids.  If they came back down, they’d have to pass us.  They wouldn’t go ahead; hiking up the mountain at nightfall was nuts.  They didn’t seem crazy.  They just disappeared.

We shrugged our shoulders, went back to the shelter, got some sleep, and headed out the next morning.  On the hike out, something amazing happened to Trevor.  He was bursting with joy.  The encounter he had with the family generated deep spontaneous healing.  He was full of optimistic hope, overflowing with elation, excited for all of life’s possibilities.  Either he was going through a complete personality change or part of his personality was emerging that had been repressed his entire life.  It was a sight to see.

In the years I’ve known Trevor since; it appears his personality shift was permanent.  He’s nowhere near the sullen guy he used to be.  Futhermore, as irony would have it, he remarried and now has two skinny step daughters of his own.  Saying he’s happy would be a grand understatement.

To this day, he swears the family we met on the trail were his guardian angels.

Do You Believe in Ghosts? How about Entities?

Spirituality, Meditation and Energy Healing

My Ghost – Flickr CC

Halloween is coming!  Prepare yourself for goulies, goblins, witches and…Entities.

Entities are dis-embodied beings that interact with the physical world.  Some are naughty, some are nice.  They commonly get stuck on the earth plane after a sudden or traumatic loss of life.  It’s as if death snuck up on them so quickly and unexpectedly, they got disoriented.  Most of them have lost their way and are looking for a path back home to the Divine.  I’ve experienced entities more than a few times when I was working as an energy healer in a hospital.

I didn’t believe in entities when I first started doing this kind of work.  Sure, I had heard stories but just brushed it off as paranormal junkies hooked on woo-woo.  I thought it was just trash for late night TV.  However, experience has a way of changing things.

One session in particular, I felt as if some non-physical person was attacking me.  My breathing was restricted, I felt like I was getting choked.  My heart rate skyrocketed; I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  Energetically, I was fighting back vehemently to save my life.  All the while, I was trying to conduct the healing session as if nothing was wrong.  I was horrified and had no idea what was happening.  Eventually, I beat the thing back, whatever it was, ended the session, and went home.  I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

That afternoon I met a friend of mine to go for a walk around a local lake.  As we strolled, I became increasingly irritable and argumentative; not like me at all.  I felt like I’d just slammed about sixteen cups of coffee.  My heart was pounding so fast, I thought it would explode out my temples.  I was sweating profusely.  Something certainly was not right.

That night, after tossing and turning for about two hours, I finally drifted to sleep.  I had a vivid dream where I released a baby alligator into a swamp. I immediately dove in after it.   The gator had instantly grown to full size and came after me with all it had.  It was going to kill me.  The ensuing battle seemed to last forever but I eventually dispatched the damn thing.  I felt like I won a fight to the death.  Had I lost the battle, I think I would have literally woken up dead.

The next morning, I rolled over and looked at the clock.  It was noon!  I couldn’t believe it.  I never sleep in like that.  Furthermore, my sheets were soaked and I was exhausted.  It took all my strength to get out of bed.  I sat on the edge of my bed and tried to figure out what was wrong.  Then it hit me, “Oh God, I picked something up in the session yesterday!”

In the end, the entity was released.  ‘Coincidentally’ my client had a ‘miraculous’ physical healing.

Woo-woo for late-night TV paranormal junkies?  I don’t think so.

What is Spirituality?

Spirituality, Meditation and Energy Healing

OracleWhat, actually, is spirituality?  Ah…the million dollar question.

Based on my experience and point of view, spirituality is the authentic experience of the Universal Life Force Energy (The Divine, Chi, The Universe, Collective Consciousness, God, etc.).  For most of us, the best initial way to link up with Divine presence is in deep states of relaxation, trance or mediation.  What happens when we get deeply relaxed?  The subconscious mind (i.e. the portal to the other world) opens up,   Suddenly, we’re in the living room of the Divine.

Another way to put it is: your higher power lives in your  imagination.  What?!?  You’ve got to be joking!  You mean I can just make it up?  Well, in a way…yes.  The Creator makes it easy for us.  Imagine your relationship with your higher power as whatever you wish and It will respond in like manner.  You may see, hear, or feel this presence in your mind.  What that means is the way you experience your Divinity is how it is.  It sounds simple because it is.

Once you begin to experience and recognize this Life Force, then the real fun begins by developing an active and on-going relationship with it.  It’s a wondrous dance of perpetual creativity and growth that lasts an eternity.

What’s Wrong With My Marriage? A Spiritual Insight

Spirituality, Meditation and Energy Healing

It takes two to tango.

The people closest to us will bring up suppressed emotion we carry inside.  Most of it originates in the past and we unknowingly project it on to our spouse.  When that happens, a marriage can serve as a vehicle to trigger some of our strongest emotional charges.

It’s easy to determine when an opportunity for healing and growth in a relationship is being missed. One or both of the parties will fall into the blame and defend ritual. If someone is blaming the other for their own charge (i.e. anger, sadness, hurt, etc.) then it’s very difficult for healing to occur. Remember, suffering is never about the other person. Your feelings are your feelings. Other people are just helping you experience emotions that need healing. They are props in your own subconscious play.

When two people can come together and realize the other person is not the cause of their difficulties but only a catalyst; then true healing and intimacy can occur.

I’ve helped numerous people successfully negotiate the terrain of strained relationships.  For more info. into the worlds of Meditation, Healing and Spirituality please visit my website at:

Is Your Relationship Serving Your Spiritual Growth?

“It is our wish to share with those seeking Truth and those seeking truly fulfilling relationship the path that we have blazed; to forge a relationship that will help them to find and dwell in the Peace of what and who they really are.

1-DSC01047“It is also our wish through this book to update the function of marriage as an institution that served a purpose in the Old Paradigm into a vehicle for transformation as we enter a new paradigm that works for the many and not just for the few. For as old structures fall away we are finding ways to make the World a better place. Clean energy solutions, systems to eradicate hunger and thirst, new technologies to enable us to work together to better the human experience and even help us to explore our solar system. But if we do not find a way to create happy human relations then we cannot live in a happy world.

“The New Paradigm is not in the future it is a subtle vibration to enter into in the present moment and this book is in its way a manual to help you to bring your primary relationship into that vibration.” – Excerpt from the book The Esoteric Path of Marriage: A Guide To Spiritual Enlightenment Through Relationship by Maha Brown & David Pan Brown. (Available on pre-order now, to be released November 15th 2015.)

As anyone who’s Heart has been ignited for a spiritual quest will discover, the unfolding of your Soul affects everything in your life to which you have been connected: your work, your relationships, your understanding of who you are and how you relate to your environment.

Those who delve deeper may come to understand something more, something not often talked about: that one can only be as enlightened as the relationship dynamics in one’s life allow one to be. That is the reason why traditionally, the yogi or monk often leaves his home and may seek solitude.

But today we are often asked to undertake this heroic journey of self-renewal and self-rediscovery amid the World. Thus our relationship dynamics must shift along with us if they are to remain healthy, that is, if they are to serve our spiritual growth. Indeed, if we learn how to enlighten our relationships, particularly an intimate relationship, it can be a most potent tool for our Spiritual Liberation. But this is a relationship model that needs to be completely re-imagined. For the relationships that we have by default as it were, those that are of the Old Paradigm, are built from duality and struggle, designed to build our false selves. This is what we will acquiesce to unless we have blueprints for a different kind of relationship.

So what does this new kind of relationship look like? This relationship of the New Paradigm, this relationship of the New Earth?

It is not only supportive of Spirit but consciously focused on mutual expansion, Spiritually empowering for both. This relationship encourages daily meditation together, conscious diet, feeding the minds with uplifting input. Fundamentally, in this relationship both members truly know what they are (Love) and what they are not (fear). Above all, it is a relationship that has a method and an understanding in place to process emotional pain and a culture within the relationship of supporting one another to dis-identify from time, mind and story. This relationship knows how to heal itself, how to forgive, how to be compassionate, to feel together. This relationship does not judge or criticize but is unconditionally a support for spiritual growth. It does not compare itself to any other relationships, especially those of the Old Paradigm that are focused on something else.

To forge this kind of relationship new agreements must be reached, understood and articulated, for when we turn our relationship towards evolution we are reversing ancient wheels of Karma and Old Paradigm dynamics.

What we will create between us is a relationship focused on Wholeness, liberating the totality of our Being, which entails that it is both mentally, emotionally, spiritually and sexually healing.
